Welcome to Ironwood Behavioral Health, LLC

David Leicken, MD is a Scottsdale Psychiatrist, board certified in adult psychiatry, treating patients ages 21 and older.  In addition to general psychiatry, Dr. Leicken specializes in post-traumatic stress disorder (the psychological affects of trauma) and psychosomatic medicine (the interactions between mind and body).  Dr. Leicken is known for having a professional, yet casual approach.  He will take the time to explain his observations to you in an unhurried and supportive environment.  By working collaboratively with you, he will help you find practical solutions and achieve the most out of your treatment .  Everyone receives individualized care based on a thorough assessment, incorporating your own goals into thetreatment plan - you are not a diagnosis.  Dr. Leicken is able to provide psychotherapy but, if you prefer, he will coordinate your care with another therapist, counselor or clergy member.

Ironwood Behavioral Health, LLC was founded on three fundamental principles - Compassion, Healing and Resilience.  Many people have emotional burdens that they carry in silence - despair, anger, worries, regrets about the past and personal failures.  Some people experience stubborn habits and behaviors that they are unable to change.  These burdens can weigh a person down and keep them from reaching their full potential.  Change, however, can be difficult.  There are processes inside of each of us that can keep us from seeing the full picture.  It is helpful to have someone walking by your side as you evaluate the difficult areas of your life.   Compassion, trust and acceptance are the fertile ground to facilitate growth and allow you to gain valuable insight into the patterns that need changing.  This is the first step in developing a pathway toward healing and wholeness. There are times when medication may be necessary to control symptoms that interfere with your ability to grow and thrive.  Medications, when used, will be selected for a specific purpose, not just to mask the underlying problem.   It is not enough, however, to merely fix a current problem.  True and lasting happiness comes from developing the ability to master your circumstances and to maintain the skills to bounce back from future adversities.  This is the principle of developing resilience - to identify and bolster your strengths, reinforce positive habits and maintain a life in balance.
