Services offered

Initial Consultation/Second Opinion:  The goal of this visit is to provide a comprehensive evaluation of your problem.  We will discuss your concerns in a way that is supportive and non-judgmental, taking into account possible medical factors, your social context, outside stresses, and family/genetic predispositions.  I may recommend additional medical tests or blood work if I believe your symptoms may be caused by an underlying medical condition.  During the initial evaluation, we have time to address your questions and discuss possible treatment options.  If you are working with another psychiatrist and feel your treatment has stalled, I am able to offer a second opinion.  This involves an initial evaluation and a few follow up sessions conducted in close coordination with your primary provider.

Psychopharmacology/Medication Management: The goal of this type of visit would be to treat symptoms using medications.  We would meet approximately every 4-6 weeks to assess how targeted symptoms have improved and then adjust medications accordingly.  The interval of visits may be adjusted based on your response to medication and the severity of symptoms.  The objective of this type of treatment is to help alleviate distressing symptoms and restore a sense of well-being.  In some cases, medication alone may not be enough.  When patterns of behavior and thought are identified as contributing to distress, psychotherapy may be recommended in addition to medication.  I may recommend that you seek treatment from an outside therapist for certain specialized types of therapy.  If you are already seeing a therapist, I welcome the opportunity to coordinate your care with them as a treatment team.

Psychotherapy: The goal of psychotherapy is to look for behavioral and thought patterns that lead to unproductive or unfulfilling outcomes and also to reinforce positive thoughts and behaviors that improve resilience and lead to happiness and productivity.  We would typically meet for an hour, once every week or two.  Medications may be part of the treatment.  Over the course of treatment we would be examining all areas of importance in your life including your childhood, family, adult relationships, employment and spirituality.
